Does Your Burger Stack Up? Derby Festival is Looking for the Next “Derby Burger” Champion

The Kentucky Derby Festival and the Kentucky Beef Council are looking for the next “Derby Burger” Champion.  Starting March 10, hamburger recipes will be accepted for submission in the third annual “Derby Burger Challenge,” sponsored by the Kentucky Beef Council. Recipes can be submitted online at www.kdf.org/beef from March 10 to March 24.

“We are excited to see what recipes we receive this year!,” said Chuck Crutcher, Chairman of the Kentucky Beef Council and beef farmer from Rineyville. “There are so many ways to make a winning burger. We have terrific backyard barbeque enthusiasts in Kentucky and we also raise and produce great beef here. This contest is an excellent way to combine the two, Area consumers are encouraged to sharpen their grilling skills and enter a creative burger recipe.”

“Derby Burger Challenge” finalists will be announced on March 28 and the winner will be selected during a cook-off on March 31. The burger recipes are judged based on Taste, Appearance, Creativity and Ease of Preparation. The winning burger will be featured as the Local Legendary Burger at Hard Rock Café Louisville in May, recognized in Louisville-area and Lexington-area Kroger stores and samples will be featured at the Kentucky Derby Festival’s BeerFest presented by American Founders Bank.

The winning chef also receives VIP tickets to Thunder Over Louisville, tickets to Waterfront Jam and BeerFest at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville as well as a $100 gift certificate to Kroger and a grilling package from Kentucky Beef Council.

From March 17 to April 21, all purchasers of fresh ground beef at any of the Kentuckiana Kroger stores (including Lexington locations) will receive a coupon at checkout (on the bottom of the receipt).  The message includes an entry code to register online at www.kdf.org/beef for a chance to win VIP tickets to a Waterfront Jam Concert presented by Laura’s Lean Beef at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville or BeerFest presented by American Founders Bank.

Paul Davis Donates Home Restoration and Repairs to Local Habitat for Humanity Home

Paul Davis Restoration of Elizabethtown recently donated to Hardin County Habitat for Humanity with home and yard improvements for a young boy in Radcliff who was severely ill and living with his grandmother. According to Debbie Goodin, who owns the restoration business with her husband Barry, their office received a phone call from Mrs. Engel, the boy’s grandmother, about mold in her home and also about a very sick grandson who lived with her in the house. Engel worked on and built the home with the Habitat organization as part of the non-profit’s housing program. When Paul Davis employee John Meyers visited the home to assess the job, he learned that Mrs. Engel’s homeowner’s insurance would not cover a visible mold problem and the associated claim. The Paul Davis office chose to proceed with the mold remediation work at no charge to the family, along with other repairs.

The donation included all of the labor and materials, drywall, painting and trim. Plus, Paul Davis straightened a closet and repaired some duct work. The family also had a poorly installed exhaust fan in the upstairs bathroom. Paul Davis renovated the bathroom in order to replace and install a new fan as part of the donation along with landscaping, yard improvements and grass seed, and a request for a tree service to trim the limbs resting on the house. The efforts support Paul Davis’ Restoring America program which helps individuals and families in need throughout the U.S.

“We believe in giving back to our community and its residents with projects like this. Our employees are active in local events and additional non-profit organizations,” Debbie Goodin said. “We always work hard to do the right thing for each customer in our community.”

For more than 30 years, the local Paul Davis office has provided emergency service response for fire, smoke and water damage for both commercial and residential structures including complete mitigation and reconstruction restoration. The company also specializes in textile restoration and hard contents cleaning, blood-borne trauma and meth lab-site cleanup. Services are available throughout Kentucky and in Tennessee with full-time technicians who are highly trained and certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

The business is headquartered at 2689 Bardstown Road in Elizabethtown. Barry and Debbie Goodin also own a Paul Davis franchise at 1507 Hall Street in Owensboro and Paul Davis Emergency Services of Hopkinsville and Clarksville at 1420 Cedar Avenue in Hopkinsville.
