Donors give millions through society
Nine families have joined the Wade Mountz Heritage Society after making gifts totaling $2.85 million to the Children’s Hospital Foundation and/or Norton Healthcare Foundation. Established in 2008, the society recognizes individuals who have made irrevocable planned gifts of $100,000 or more to the foundations, which benefit the hospitals and services of Norton Healthcare and Kosair Children’s Hospital.
To date, members of the society have donated nearly $34 million toward the future of health care in our community.
“These families have stepped forward to support the work and innovation at Norton Healthcare and Kosair Children’s Hospital,” said Lynnie Meyer, MSN, R.N., CFRE, chief development officer, Norton Healthcare. “This is a long-term investment in the health and wellness of our community, allowing excellent and high-quality care at Kosair Children’s Hospital and Norton Healthcare to continue.”
The model of charitable estate planning used for the Wade Mountz Heritage Society has made the Children’s Hospital Foundation and Norton Healthcare Foundation a national model for health care philanthropy. It allows individuals to leave a lasting legacy that will make a long-term difference.
The Wade Mountz Heritage Society is named in honor of Norton Healthcare President Emeritus Wade Mountz and embodies many of his core values, such as his vision, leadership, character, commitment and integrity.

Rooibee Red Tea donates first shipment of low-sugar kid’s tea Rooibee Roo to Kosair Children’s Hospital
Before Rooibee Roo, a new line of kids tea from Rooibee Red Tea, was made available to the public, the company delivered 100 cases to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Like its parent line Rooibee Red Tea, Rooibee Roo is USDA-certified organic, naturally caffeine-free bottled rooibos tea high in antioxidants like vitamin C. Each eight-ounce BPA-free plastic bottle contains zero fat, less than 60 calories and only 12 grams of organic cane sugar. Rooibee Roo’s three flavors (mango, cherry and orange) are something kids enjoy drinking and parents know offer unique health benefits.
“We’re pleased Rooibee Red Tea chose our patients at Kosair Children’s Hospital as the first to receive Rooibee Roo,” said Lynnie Meyer, MSN, R.N., CFRE, executive director of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. “The Rooibee Red Tea team has been incredibly generous in supplying several areas of our hospital so that our families will have another, lower-sugar alternative.”
Now that the kids at Kosair Children’s Hospital are enjoying their Rooibee Roo, families can purchase their own bottles at all Heine Brothers’ locations and the St. Matthews Community Pharmacy in Louisville, and various restaurants in Louisville and Lexington. It will be available online and in select grocery stores mid-summer. Visit RooibeeRedTea.com for more information.

SeniorCare Experts (SCE) will celebrate their 40th Anniversary with supporters from across the Commonwealth at a Bourbon and Champagne dinner that includes First Lady Dr. Alex Gerassimides and will be emceed by Jay Cardosi. The event also will include a presentation of a $50,000 contribution from Walmart to the organzation’s efforts to fight hunger through their Home Delivered Meals Program.
“Seniors are important to Louisville and the Commonwealth…what SCE does to help them is critical…,” said Patty Dissell, executive director. “The incredible support we receive from community and business leaders (including Walmart) is reflective of the impact we are having on Louisville.”
SCE is a local nonprofit organization committed to the needs of senior adults. Through the generosity of individuals and businesses who care about the health and welfare of our oldest citizens, SCE is able to help create solutions for healthy aging at home such as: Home Delivered Meals, Transportation, Lifeline Medical Alert, Prescription Medication Dispenser, Home Care, Consultations, Assessments and Referrals. When there is a financial hardship, SCE also offers subsidies to help the senior.
The contribution to SeniorCare Experts was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Kentucky State Giving Program (SGP). Through this program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting positive impact on communities across the U.S.
Last year, Walmart’s Kentucky State Giving Program awarded more than $750,000 to local organizations such as Operation Homefront, Junior Achievement and Senior Services of Northern Kentucky. In Kentucky, a team of local associates determines needs within the state, reviews eligible grant applications and makes funding recommendations to the Walmart Foundation.
