The UPS Foundation Delivers Game-Changing Grand Funds for 2014 Bingham Fellows Working in West Louisville
The Leadership Louisville Center’s Bingham Fellows program received a $27,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS). The grant will be used to boost the capacity and work of the 2014 Bingham Fellows who are focused on “Investing in West Louisville’s Path to Prosperity.” This class seeks to build on the strengths in West Louisville and assist with transformation of the neighborhoods.
“The UPS Foundation is honored to support the Leadership Louisville Center’s Bingham Fellows efforts to invest in West Louisville’s path to prosperity,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. “Our goal is to fund powerful programs that make a lasting difference to the global community.”
Since January 2014, the class has gathered to study the issues and assets of West Louisville, learn from best practices and tap into their imagination and talent to develop projects designed to create social change. Following recommendations from the Bingham Fellows steering committee and community partners, the class has narrowed down their work to three project areas and will launch their initiatives in October.
The three project areas of the 2014 Bingham Fellows include:
Development of a Community Empowerment Association for West Louisville, a not-for-profit corporation whose primary mission will be to stimulate economic development and community revitalization.
Workforce development initiative called We HIRE, to create a sustainable community solution that reduces unemployment for citizens of West Louisville.
Early Childhood Education 40210, a project to increase the kindergarten readiness of children residing in zip code 40210 (includes portions of the California, Park Hill, and Algonquin neighborhoods).
96th PGA Championship Grounds Tickets Sold Out for Championship Rounds
Featuring the strongest field in golf, including a record 99 of the Top 100 players in the world for the third straight year, the 96th PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club has sold out all grounds tickets for each of the Championship rounds, this Thursday through Sunday.
Fans who still would like to gain access to the 96th PGA Championship can do so through the purchase of Practice Round Grounds Tickets for today, Tuesday and Wednesday. The remaining Practice Round tickets start at $30, and can be purchased at the PGA Championship Admissions Sales and Will Call office at the Main Spectator Entrance or via PGAChampionship.com.
“It’s a testament to the great passion of golf fans from Louisville and around the world for the 96th PGA Championship to sellout all of our Championship rounds,” said PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Pete Bevacqua. “It shows that the love for the game of golf is as strong as ever and that the PGA Championship is a major reason why. Complimentary passes remain available for the days of competition for all Active Duty Military, Retirees, Active Reserve, National Guard, Department of Defense Civilians and an accompanying spouse with proper military or dependent I.D. Meanwhile, up to four juniors ages 17 and under can gain complimentary admission to the PGA Championship with any ticketed adult. Military and junior admissions are available at the PGA Championship Admission Sales and Will Call office on the day of entry.

Sarah Reed Harris Appointed Managing Director of the Center for Interfaith Relations
Sarah Reed Harris has been appointed Managing Director of the Center for Interfaith Relations (CIR). Ms. Harris has been serving as assistant director of the organization since May 2012.
“We are fortunate to have found in Sarah a person of great personal faith and tremendous administrative and organizational ability,” said Turney P. Berry, chairman of the CIR board. “Her passion for our work made her the natural choice for Managing Director, and we look forward to her leadership as we expand the scope and reach of the Festival of Faiths.”
Ms. Harris is the daughter of the Rt. Rev. David B. Reed, retired Episcopal bishop of Kentucky, and civic leader Susan Guise. A graduate of Wellesley College, Ms. Harris received a master of public administration from the University of Louisville.
In her role as managing director, Ms. Harris will direct CIR’s community outreach, personal growth, and interfaith activities. She will continue to head the annual Festival of Faiths, which in 2015 will mark its 20th anniversary.
“It is a distinct honor to help lead this organization in the fulfillment of its motto, ‘Many Faiths. One Heart. Common Action.’ We are blessed with visionary leadership, a seasoned and supportive board, and tremendously talented staff,” she said.
