Louisville Music Haven Hosted at Home of Louisville Orchestra Conductor
Louisvlle Orchestra conductor, Teddy Abrams, opened his home to an audience for the first time to launch his “Louisville Music Haven.” Featuring a performance by Teddy’s own group, the Sixth Floor Trio, the evening was a gathering of friends and supporters of the Louisville Orchestra.
Abrams’ home is the hub of his own musical activities around the world and is located in the NuLu section of Louisville. In this urban location, formerly housing an antique store, Teddy has created a space where music, creativity, collaboration and fellowship can thrive. Abrams envisions a location for pre- and post-concert gatherings, planned and impromptu music happenings and a gathering place for musicians. For more information call 502.585.9427.

The Salvation Army Needs Birds
In a little less than a month Americans will sit down to a Thanksgiving feast, and the Salvation Army is appealing to the community to help donate Turkeys for Thanksgiving. Though the tables of many will be filled with an assortment of side dishes, vegetables, and cranberry sauce, and the traditional turkey, for others, this yearly feast is only possible thanks to the generosity of those in their communities where organizations like the Salvation Army provide the Thanksgiving bounty. Richard Dowell, Food Service Manager for the Salvation Army in Louisville, says they expect to feed upwards of 800 people this year on Nov. 27, but with a lack of donated turkeys from area food banks, they’ll have to come “out of pocket” to feed the needy; an additional expense of nearly $1500. Dowell says it will take 50, 20 pound turkeys to provide the community meal and they’ll need them no later than Friday, Nov. 14. And it’s not only the turkeys that are needed; the kitchen could also use some of the side dishes as well, including canned sweet potatoes, dinner rolls and desserts. Volunteers are also a critical piece and Dowell says they need between 50-60 to provide the holiday lunch and dinner service. For those able to help, turkeys and side items can be donated directly to the Salvation Army’s MALE Campus at 911 S. Brook St. A complete list of needed items can be found below.
