2015 DERBY FESTIVAL POSTER ARTIST PAINTS “GREEN” IMAGE

It doesn’t feel much like spring outside, but planning for the 2015 Kentucky Derby Festival is well underway. Today, the Festival named Louisville native, Karen Boone, the artist for the Official Poster of the 2015 Festival.

Karen is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, the University of Louisville. She received her Master’s degree from Basel School of Design in Switzerland. She has worked in Amsterdam, for Pentagram in New York and San Francisco, and in Tokyo, Japan. Karen’s current painting work is about exploring nature with all natural paints. The 2015 Kentucky Derby Festival poster art was painted traditionally with organic oil paint, created by mixing real earth pigments with organic walnut oil.

This is the third time Boone has been bestowed the honor. She also designed KDF’s official poster in 1996 and 1999. She owns her own business, Karen Boone Design in Louisville, and has clients locally, as well as in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, New York and the Midwest. She has paintings in private collections and corporations across the country.

Boone’s poster will be released at KDF’s first event of 2015 – “Festival Unveiled” Presented by Citizens Union Bank and Four Roses Bourbon. The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 26, at The Ice House on East Washington Street. In addition to unveiling the official poster, other exciting elements of the 2015 Festival will also be announced.  Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door and go on sale Jan. 9. Sponsors: Citizens Union Bank and Four Roses Bourbon. Contributing Sponsors: Ale-8-One, Clark and Riggs and Crushed Ice Events.

Over the years, the Derby Festival’s Official Poster Series has become a unique symbol of the community. Past designs decorate offices and homes throughout the city. Peter Max’s expressionistic “Bluegrass Pegasus” launched the series in 1981, and a stylistic and geographical mix of artists have been showcased over the years. The signed collector editions continue to significantly increase in value, and the quality of the Poster Series has been recognized worldwide.

Heaven Hill Unveils New Corporate Name, Logo Ahead of Company’s 80th Anniversary

On the eve of its 80th year, the country’s largest family owned and operated distilled spirits company unveils a new corporate name, Heaven Hill Brands, and a new logo that capture the company’s evolution from a leader in American Whiskey production – a position it continues to hold today – to the nation’s sixth-largest distilled spirits supplier

Over the last three decades Heaven Hill has built on its foundation of American Whiskeys to become a broadly diversified supplier of whiskeys, liqueurs, vodkas, rums and other spirits. Heaven Hill’s portfolio includes the world’s second-largest selling Bourbon, Evan Williams Bourbon, and category leaders Christian Brothers Brandy, Burnett’s Vodka and Admiral Nelson’s Rum. The portfolio also includes a growing line of leading imported brands from around the world, such as Hpnotiq and Domaine de Canton liqueurs.  Likewise, the company has a stable of innovative brands including PAMA Liqueur, Blackheart Spiced Rum and Evan Williams Flavors.

Brands are identified and developed to take advantage of the many, varied consumer tastes and are sold domestically and worldwide in more than 40 countries through innovative and aggressive marketing and sales initiatives.

While the new name reflects the company’s more diversified direction, it retains ‘Heaven Hill’ at its core, in reference to the company’s original American Whiskey distillery and longstanding history. The company is headquartered in Bardstown, Kentucky, on land once owned by William Heavenhill in the 18th century. The new logo features an elegant, timeless silhouette of a bottle and rocks glass rendered in the company’s signature blue palette.

The new name and logo announcement kick off what will be a year-long celebration of the company’s 80th anniversary. Founded in 1935 by the five Shapira brothers to produce and market Bourbon and premium American Whiskeys, the company expects to soon fill its seven millionth whiskey barrel and is run today by the second and third generations of the Shapira family. Together, they’re proudly leading the country’s largest family owned and operated distilled spirits company into a new era.
